I think it’s a great idea, and raises awareness of the issues that surround our bottle fetish. Hopefully other cities around the country will start promoting their own water system as an alternative to ‘Fiji’ H2O.
As an extra bonus, New York City tap water consistently beats expensive bottled water in taste and purity tests, meaning Tap’dNY is a much better product, too!
Tap’dNY (”Bottled water without the funny accent”) is a startup that recognizes this need, and unapologetically bottles and sells New York City tap water to New Yorkers. This greatly reduces the transportation cost and pressures on remote water systems and maximizes use of water that NYC invests a lot of money to ensure is clean, healthy and tasty.
Many have felt that New York City’s drinking water is some of the most delicious (uh, those New Yorkers feel that way about everything!), but one company has decided to marry that sentiment with the greenest of intentions by bottling tap water and selling it as a product. (At least you know what you’re getting.)

It really is very simple. People want to be: 1) Eco-friendy, 2) Healthy, 3) Hip and/or cool. If you said otherwise I wouldn’t believe you. So to be those three things, all you need to do is hydrate yourself with nature’s finest. That’s right, just drink water. More specifically, the right water. You need to drink Tap’d NY water. The idea is that instead of pretending that their water comes from the rainforests in the Amazon or whatever other untouched location companies put on their bottles’ labels, Tap’d NY is pretty clear that they’re just using New York tap water and filtering it in whatever magical ways they choose.

We appreciate that Tap’dNY is trying to appeal to shoppers who want to go local. And we think it’s equally smart that they’re trying to address consumers’ concerns over the waste created by thousands of water plastic bottles.
So, all things considered, we’ll give these guys a pass. You’ve got to admire them for calling out pretension and thinking innovatively.
Their big marketing spiel? They’re going the green route by being up front about the source and the fact it’s not come from Fiji or France (they actually go on about Fiji an France quite a bit).
Well, now there’s a new kid on the block, the New York block that is, and they’re selling tap water, and being honest about it’s source too.
At least they’re honest. And NY does have great tap water. OK success.
I can see why a lot of critics are against such an idea, but I’m drawn to the fact that this might just end up being a profitable business, and that alone sparks my curiosity in the brand. I’m hoping to pick one up soon at a local distributor just so I can have the great looking bottle.
With this in mind, a company by the name of Tap’dNY is promoting a line of bottled water that is essentially New York City tap water. There’s no BS here.
Ok, so I know that 40% of bottled water is really just tap water masquerading as fancy-shmancy mineral-enhanced, brain-boosting, extra-hydrating, performance-enhancing, thirst-quenching, super-purified water. And I know that most of us have, at one point, fallen for it. But apparently the bottled water trend is now so totally normalized that people are willing to purchase bottled water that’s simply labeled as tap water! Even better—it’s tap water that’s being promoted as a “local” alternative.
